Patong Beach

Patong's 3-km strip of golden sand is one of the most popular beaches in Phuket. It has plenty of parasailing and jet ski operators, boat drivers, beach vendors and masseuses approaching travellers who are relaxing on the sand.

Patong Beach has a row of coconut, palm and tropical almond trees separating the shore from the main road. This slightly cooler area is lined with stalls selling snacks and drinks, as well as beach massage parlours. You can also find beachfront restaurants and bars offering simple Thai and international dishes, particularly around the middle of the beach, near the entrance to Bangla Road.

The northern part of Patong Beach hides a small sandy creek where the water is very shallow and clear during high season. The southern part is the mouth of a river, where several fishing boats anchor. The bridge over the river leads to a small fishing village and the various bays and beaches around the headland that separates Patong from Karon.

The best time to visit Patong Beach in Phuket is between November and April when the sea is very flat and calm. From May to October, the beach experiences large waves and dangerous swells. While you can go in the water on some days, pay strict attention to the red warning flags when they're out on the sand.

Bangla Road Night Life

Bangla Road is now mostly known as Bangla Walking Street or even Thanon Bangla, and for many decades has been the notorious heart of all Phuket nightlife. The battle for night supremacy rages every night between beer bars, live music bars, rooftop bars, nightclubs and, of course, those famous go-go bars! Phuket never ceases to amaze.

Freedom Beach

The beautiful and secluded Freedom Beach is an anomaly. It is one of the prettiest beaches in Phuket, with incredibly soft white sand and clear blue waters. It is just a few minutes away from Patong Beach, the busiest beach on the island and yet, it is surprisingly peaceful and quiet.

Banzaan Fresh Market

A rainbow of colors bedeck Banzaan Fresh Market's alleyways, thanks to its stalls touting juicy tropical fruits, traditional street food and freshly-harvested seafood. It's a must-see for everyone.

Banzaan Market in Patong is a modern-looking Thai fresh market on Sai Kor Road, right behind the Jungceylon megamall. You can get anything that you'd expect from a local market here, but in a much more pleasant, weatherproof environment. Prices are reasonable, too.

Banzaan Market is the brainchild of a well-known Phuket family that sought to offer shoppers an alternative experience to visiting a typical local market. The word banzaan means 'fresh market' in Hokkien, a Chinese dialect popular among Chinese communities throughout Southeast Asia, including the Chinese-Thai community in Phuket.
